Henley-upon-Thames - Contemporary Extension to a Country Home

For this country home in Henley-on-Thames, we built a contemporary single-storey extension to create a much larger, open-plan kitchen, dining and seating area.

The new space was designed to make the most of the property's setting, with eight-metre-wide bifold doors opening up views across the grounds and towards the duck pond. The result is a light, spacious room where the owners can cook, eat and relax while enjoying the surrounding landscape.

One of the key decisions was how the new extension should sit alongside the existing house. Rather than trying to match the original building, the owners wanted something distinctly different. Black exterior cladding was chosen to give the extension its own character, while allowing the traditional country house to remain the main feature.

The finished extension brings a contemporary element to the property without taking away from its original character. It has created a generous, practical living space that makes much better use of the views and connects the house with its surroundings.
